This was our first match of 2016. In past years we scheduled a match for the last Sunday in February, however, with last year's long, cold winter we were scared off this year and waited until March to schedule the first match. If I am correct last year it was -1 deg. on this date with deep snow! Anyway today it was a little brisk in the morning but, by mid day it was quite nice.
Most of the guys were a little stale and some good scores but, no outstanding scores were shot with the exception of Bart Wineland's very, very fine 474-12X. He shot that score with his .22 upper on his AR. It shows what can be done at 100 yards with a rim fire .22. As ammunition costs increase .22's maybe the alternative. Another advantage is not having to pick up your brass – no reloading either! The bright sun, the range faces south, made it tough to shoot. At the Springs Rod & Gun Club range the best shooting is when it is somewhat overcast.
Thanks to all the guys who came out and for the help moving the benches out of the way and then putting them back. I hope everybody had fun shooting!
See you next month.
Thanks again,
Pete & Dave
